The upcoming generation of the Kia Seltos is anticipated to feature hybrid technology when it launches next year.
The next-generation Kia Seltos, which has been spotted multiple times during testing in South Korea, has now made its first camouflaged appearance on Indian roads. This upcoming model is widely expected to introduce a hybrid powertrain as part of its major revamp. The India launch is anticipated in the second half of 2026.
Although the Kia Seltos received a mid-cycle facelift in July 2023, it hasn’t been able to match its earlier strong sales performance. This heightens the significance of the next-generation model’s arrival. The prototype spotted in India reveals several design updates, including a vertically stacked LED headlamp setup featuring a sharper, more angular look and pronounced vertical LED DRLs.
Additional changes visible include new dual-tone alloy wheels, refreshed front and rear bumpers, and redesigned tail lamps, indicating a comprehensive visual overhaul. The upcoming five-seater is expected to closely follow Kia’s latest “Opposites United” design philosophy, which is already evident across its global and Indian model range.
The test mule showcases a distinctly more upright front end compared to the current model, featuring new grille inserts and a broader air intake that suggest a sportier design. Minor adjustments to the overall dimensions are expected, along with a gently sloping roofline complemented by triangular rear quarter windows.
Inside, the next-generation Seltos may debut a redesigned dashboard and center console layout, enhanced with upgraded trim and materials. It’s also anticipated to offer improved connected car features, support for over-the-air (OTA) software updates, and a more sophisticated suite of driver assistance and safety systems.
For the Indian market, the next-generation Seltos is expected to retain its current engine options: the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5-litre diesel, and 1.5-litre turbo petrol variants. However, a hybrid powertrain is also likely to be introduced. Inspired by systems found in models like the Niro and Kona, this setup is anticipated to be a self-charging hybrid, prioritizing fuel efficiency. There are also rumours of an e-AWD hybrid version in development. According to reports from South Korea, production is set to begin later this year, with a potential global launch slated for early 2026.
